Velma's child
Dedicated to my mother who died on March 6th, 1997. She died at 56 years of age, hence the short length of the song. The waltz feel and dreamy melody are her impenetrable smile and Zen attitude about life. The scale to the top of the piano at the end of the piece represents, of course, her trip to heaven. Thanks for the poem, Dr. Frank Kinney.

Velma's Child
You saw things I didn't see
Delighting in Wonders that couldn't be
Mysteries hidden in the sea
Sands of time and eternity
You stroked a shell and smelled the sea
And felt its swirls in your reverie
Restoring its life and identity
And laughing at visions I couldn't see
You saw things I didn't see
Delighting in Wonders that couldn't be
Mysteries hidden in the sea
Sands of time and eternity
